"Learn ASL at Home" Kit - Teach your own class!

$119.00

Learn ASL at Home is a beginning American Sign Language class for family members and friends of young deaf and hard of hearing children ages 0-5, based on American Sign Language at Home: A Family Curriculum, 2nd Edition. It can also be easily modified for families with older children.

The kit is set up for eight one-hour sessions (use the mini-lecture and activity slide decks in the week before the class starts. Then, proceed with two weeks per chapter, with vocabulary and sentence practice on odd weeks and DCCW and language enrichment techniques on even weeks). You can further modify the course to fit your program as needed.

If you have questions about course design, please feel free to reach out to us at info@ASLatHome.org. If you would like customization for class delivery (e.g., if you want a longer or shorter course), please click here.

What’s included in the kit?

  • 6 teaching slide decks

    • 1 for the introductory class session(s)

    • 4 content chapter slide decks

    • 1 fingerspelling slide deck (these slides are also in the Day 1 presentation but we have found that some classes do not want to focus on fingerspelling, so we provide the slides separately for students who do want to work on fingerspelling on their own)

  • 3 slide decks for introductory asynchronous activities

    • 1 mini-lecture to orient students to the course

    • Meet Your Peers interactive activity (you can replace Leah and Razi’s slides with introductions to whoever is teaching your classes)

    • Goals activity

  • 4 receptive practice slide decks: 1 for each of the 4 content chapters
